Carbohydrate Calculator: Training Days vs Rest Days in Grams

Carbohydrate calculator grams per day is two different questions wearing one search phrase. Sometimes you mean percent of calories-classic AMDR thinking. Sometimes you mean grams per kg body weight-team sport and endurance tables that bump carbs up on hard days and down when you rest. DevOkk’s Carbohydrate Calculator does both; it does not auto-build a weekly periodization plan, diagnose glycemic disease, or replace a dietitian.
Default percent mode: 2000 kcal at 50% carbohydrate → 250 g/day (2000 × 0.50 ÷ 4). Default g/kg mode: enter weight and a factor such as 5 g/kg-at 70 kg that is 350 g. The numbers diverge because they answer different assumptions about total energy and training load. Two modes on one page
Percent of calories. Multiply daily kcal by carb percent, divide by 4 kcal/g (Atwater). DevOkk flags whether your percent falls near the commonly cited 45–65% AMDR band. That flag is descriptive, not a grade on your health.
Grams per kg. Multiply body weight by g/kg. Sports texts often cite 3–7 g/kg for active adults depending on session length and intensity, with higher bands for exhaustive endurance and lower on rest days. DevOkk caps unrealistic g/kg inputs to keep pranks from printing 900 g.
Neither mode knows your fiber, added sugar, or meal timing. It prints total carbohydrate grams.
Training day vs rest day: a practical split
Periodized carb intake is standard coaching language:

DevOkk does not label days for you. Run g/kg mode twice: once with 3.5 for rest, once with 6 for a long run day. Write both results in a notebook. That manual step is intentional-automatic “training day toggles” would pretend to know your session without seeing it.
Pace and duration inform whether today deserves the high row. Pace Calculator converts distance and time into min/km or min/mile-useful when a “hard day” means 90 minutes at threshold, not a 20-minute jog. Pace does not output carbs; you bring the judgment.
When percent mode beats g/kg
If you already have a calorie target from Calorie Calculator or a clinician, percent mode keeps carbs locked to that energy line. Example: 2400 kcal, 55% carbs → 330 g. Change activity down to 2000 kcal at the same percent → 275 g. The percent stays; grams fall because the denominator fell.
Macro Calculator splits protein, carbs, and fat together so percents sum to 100. Use it when all three macros must move as a set-e.g. 30/40/30 at 2136 kcal. Use Carbohydrate Calculator when only carb grams matter and protein/fat are handled elsewhere.
Protein stays steadier; carbs flex
Protein guidance often anchors g/kg lean or total weight across days-see Protein grams per kg. Carbohydrate is the macronutrient that scales with glycogen turnover most obviously. Fat fills remaining calories or a fixed percent.
Example sketch (not a prescription): 70 kg lifter holds 140 g protein (~1.6 g/kg) daily. Rest day 2200 kcal, carbs 40% → 220 g. Hard leg day 2800 kcal, carbs 55% → 385 g. Protein grams unchanged; energy and carb percent rose.

AMDR is context, not a personal exam score
The 45–65% carbohydrate AMDR is a population distribution band for adequate intake alongside protein and fat AMDRs. Landing at 40% or 70% does not automatically mean deficiency or disease on a website. Athletes, low-carb therapeutic diets under supervision, and high-volume runners intentionally live outside the middle.
DevOkk’s note when you leave the band is a textbook reminder, not a scolding. Clinical medical nutrition therapy uses different targets for renal, hepatic, and glycemic conditions.
Energy quality dominates carb grams
Carb grams from a calculator are only as good as calories in:
- TDEE estimate from Mifflin–St Jeor × activity overstates or understates easily. Read BMR vs TDEE vs calories burned.
- Logged intake averaged over two weeks beats any single formula if honesty holds.
- Fat-loss deficit lowers all macros when percents stay fixed; surplus raises them.
Typing 2000 kcal because it is round is fine for learning; typing it because you hope it is your truth without measurement is fiction.
Diabetes, GI, and eating disorders
Type 1 and type 2 diabetes: carbohydrate counting interacts with medication, insulin ratios, and glucose monitoring. This page does not set carb limits for glycemic control.
IBS / FODMAP / celiac: total grams say nothing about fermentability or gluten.
Eating disorders: rigid gram targets can fuel compulsion. If carb math drives anxiety, stop and seek support. A calculator does not know your mental health history.
Worked examples you can replicate
Percent: 2136 kcal, 40% carbs → 2136 × 0.40 = 854.4 kcal from carb → 213.6 g (÷ 4).
g/kg: 80 kg runner, 6 g/kg long-run day → 480 g (~1920 kcal from carb alone before protein and fat).
Compare: 480 g carb at 4 kcal/g = 1920 kcal. If total day is only 2800 kcal, carbs are 69%-common for carb-heavy endurance days, unusual for sedentary AMDR teaching. Context decides whether that is appropriate.
Fiber, timing, and what grams omit
Total carbohydrate grams include fiber and starch in food-label math. AMDR and g/kg tables rarely separate fiber targets (often cited around 25–38 g/day for adults) from starch and sugar that dominate glycogen refueling. DevOkk prints one carb gram line; your plate still needs vegetables, whole grains, or intentional fiber choices if that matters clinically.
Timing-carbs before, during, or after sessions-is sports practice, not something a daily gram total encodes. A 350 g day can be spread across six meals or concentrated around a 20 km run. The calculator is silent on that split on purpose.
Ultra and heat: sodium and fluid need scale with carb intake during long events. Pace Calculator helps you name the session length; it does not replace an event nutrition plan from a qualified coach or physician.
